I’ve been wanting antlers as accessories for approximately ten thousand years, give or take a few. Plicka made a set of antlers attached to hair, by request, but it was for adult males only, and obviously had only one hairstyle. Credit for the actual antler portion of the mesh goes to wintermutai1.

Anyway, with my newfound powers of MilkShape, I separated the antlers from the hair and remapped them, then threw together some fresh textures and recoloured them! Ta-da! They come in Medium Brown, Dark Brown, Black, White, Light Grey, and Teal (specifically for Nett, but surely someone else wants to make a teal deer?) flavours. The title is from The Queen’s Rebuke, from my favourite Decemberist’s album! I always imagined that the Queen had antlers…

The antlers are for both sexes, from young adult through elder. I’m working on teen and child versions, but especially for the children, this means I have to do the meshes from scratch (obviously the chilluns don’t have fully formed stag antlers!).

Files are compressed, and all junk ages have been removed. Antlers are layerable with other accessories, and will be worn at all times, even when nude.

Please note, this is for the antlers only. All sims in the screenshots are wearing anthro outfits from Beosboxboy/Marvine/SynapticSims, available here. The ears are just my elf template ears on the smallest setting.

The original dress mesh is from the H&M Stuff pack, but this download is basegame compatible. I’ve made some changes to the mesh, obviously, making it bottom-only instead of full-outfit, and tweaking the shoulder straps and hem as necessary. The shoes are from a MYOS mesh that I cannot locate, but obviously that mesh is not required for the download. If anyone knows a link, I’d be happy to add it here.

The shoe textures were painted by my hero, bondchick_nett, who swooped in to save me when I was BAWWWWing with frustration over them.

Again I apologize for the lack of a fat morph, but at least your chubby teens can feel comfy in the “larger” version since it’s soooo spacious! I went a little overboard and did 17 recolours of all the meshes, so here are swatches so you may delete the files you don’t like:

The name is because the big shoes make me think of Kingdom Hearts! <3 Those were such great games. Well, okay, KH2 was a bit tangential, and I didn’t play the GBA version, only read the manga. BUT STILL.

- Larger Version: This mesh is bigger and can fit with little to no clipping over even the swing jackets I separated. It is also compatible with ALL Maxis top meshes. However, it does gap a little if your teens are wearing untuckable tops or anything else that’s skin-tight.

- Tighter Version: This mesh is suitable for any top that is skin-tight, because this is almost identical to the fullbody mesh it’s taken from. However, use with larger tops will cause clipping at the straps and sometimes at the breasts.

If you want ONLY the mesh suitable for larger tops, choose this one:

Be aware that in order to have both versions of the mesh in the game at the same time means they are two separate clothings, and thus each are recoloured separately, instead of being slave and master textures.

Two nights ago, I saw nabila_ici‘s GORGEOUS new mesh, Skeleton Boy. bondchick_nett and I were both lamenting wanting it for teen only (since we both have SO MANY adult female clothes!), and I also mentioned that I’d love having it as a top only.

So, I whipped out Fantasyrogue’s tutorial on separating clothing meshes and tried my hand. Unfortunately, this top does NOT have morphs, but when I am feeling less battered I plan to add a fat morph. Not pregnant, sorry loves. But fat! That counts for something, right?

Anyway, I’d originally just done up the mesh and remapped it for Nett’s use, but tonight I decided I may as well do some different colours of it so I could upload it here properly. ^_^ However, her recolours are forthcoming and I must say, you should definitely be looking forward to them (bitches!).

I suppose I ought to write up some terms of use for my stuff eventually, huh. Anyway, feel free to recolour (I’ve uploaded the PSD again like last time), and go ahead and include the mesh in your downloads. A link back is, of course, always appreciated. <3

delicious pants

I return bearing a new download! I actually have numerous projects in the works, but this was something I felt moved to get done quickly, and wella! Here it is!

The mesh for these pants is Maxis, so you won’t need to download anything extra for them to work! ^_^ The textures are from my favourite Uni pajama outfit, extracted and pasted onto a base-game compatible mesh.

Unlike the originals, which were YA only, these pants are available to YA, Adults, and Elders of the male persuasion. They are set as Pajamas, Underwear, and Athletic.

There are four recolours, pictured above, but if that’s not enough for you, please do make more (and then tell me, so I can link to them)! I’ve also uploaded the PSD file to make recolouring easier.

Not gonna lie, next to Doctor Who, Sherlock Holmes, and Firefly, MLP:FiM is like my favourite TV show. I’ve already made a Fluttershy sim, in the sims 2, but the personality options in Sims 3 were just so tempting! So, I made all the “mane” ponies, plus an Apple Bloom, because I love Apple Bloom. I’m also considering making some other characters (like Princesses Celestia and Luna, Spike, and maybe Zecora or something), but we’ll have to see. I’m also working on some cutie mark tattoos!

In the meantime, ponies! Kind of.

ETA: I have gotten loads of people asking me about the custom content used to make these. While I would love to link to every single piece of CC used, I’m afraid that I no longer have access to my CC folder. That means I don’t know where everything comes from, anymore.

Ages ago, when I finished my first set of face templates, I mourned the lack of a really intricate step-by-step tutorial on how to make them. Making face templates is a challenging project, and there were lots of times when I really wished there was a picture showing me where the heck the “Commit” button was, etc. So, I decided to write one.

At this point, this tutorial is several years old (written in 2008!), so both Windows and SimPE have changed…not so much that these pictures are no longer helpful, mind. But if something looks slightly different, that is why. I do still provide as much support as possible for this tutorial, and if you are stuck, you’re more than welcome to ask me to help. Also feel free to check the comments on the original entry in case your issue has already been discussed.

But enough talk, onto the tutorial!

First, you’ll want to download the Face Template Files by AllenABQ. That will save you a lot of trouble. You will still have to extract the ALIEN template, if you want to replace it, as it is not included in that zip. Save these somewhere you’ll remember them, and then let’s leave them be for now.

Secondly, let’s assume that you don’t all ready have the faces you want to use made. If you’re starting completely from scratch, you’ll want to empty out your SavedSims folder, which is usually found under (C:\Documents and Settings\~YOURNAMEHERE~\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\SavedSims), at least if you have Windows XP. Just copy all the files in there and past them to a separate folder on your desktop.

Another recommendation I would make is to take everything out of your downloads folder except for default replacements, and things like hair, eyebrows, and genetics. Furniture and objects will still make BodyShop load slowly, and you don’t need them right now. However, if you don’t have your downloads organised, or don’t mind the wait, disregard this step.

Okay, you’ve emptied SavedSims, now boot up BodyShop. There shouldn’t be any premade sims in there (except for the Maxis-made ones, and if you don’t want those to show up, you can always get a sim bin hider), which makes it easier for you to find the sims you make, and it will also save you the trouble of having to delete all the sims you’re about to create one-by one later on.

Be sure to keep the SavedSims window open, so you can keep track of which files are which, because you won’t be able to delete the files when BodyShop is open!

So, now you’ll want to make a sim.

If you’re just going to de-uglify the Maxis templates, feel free to select the full face archetypes one by one and change them as you like, for both adult genders. However, if you’re planning on making a sim “from scratch,” and especially if you’re currently using a different set of replacements, here is the method I recommend to make sure that your sim doesn’t look too much like your current defaults:

Go to the full-face archetypes, and choose one. Then, from there, move the sliders on the other faces (not all of them, just pick a few at random) just slightly, to alter the features, but not change them completely.

See how a lot of little subtle changes can make a big difference? Then, once you’re happy with the way the face looks, go to Modifiers and tweak at your leisure. Chances are, the sim you’re making will look pretty unique. Hopefully also pretty AND unique.

So, let’s say you started out with a boy (I’ve found it’s much easier to make a good-looking man first, and convert it to an attractive female, than the other way around. If you make the woman first, the man tends to end up slightly feminine. But if you’re into that, go ahead). You’ve gotten him the way you like him, now save him. Then select him in the sim bin and clone him.

Then you’ll want to change the gender to the opposite one, in this case, female. Tweak her until she looks the way you want her to – but keep in mind to keep the face shape similar: If you make a man and a woman of the same archetype look too different, you could end up marrying them to someone whose template doesn’t match the opposite gender of theirs, and their opposite-gendered children could end up looking unfortunate.

So you have a male and a female sim that hopefully look pretty similar. Clone one of them (I recommend always doing the first gender first), and convert them to teen, again tweaking until it looks normal (usually that doesn’t require much, BodyShop will do most of the work for you. I made some of my teens’ eyes one click bigger, however, just to make them look a little more childlike), then save. Do this again for elder, and with both genders. For child and toddler, however, there is only one, unisex face file. So choose whichever template you like best (male or female), and then clone it, set the age to toddler, and then tweak. To make sure that it won’t look too much like the opposite sex than it is, switch the gender back and forth once or twice. Then save, and you’re set!

So now you have a full “family” for that template. Keep BodyShop open, and look to your SavedSims folder. You kept that open, right? If you didn’t, you’ll have to Sort Icons By > Modified. The last eight files should be your family, in the order that you made the sims.

If you’ve been following the tutorial step-by-step, the order will be: Adult Male, Adult Female, Teen Male, Teen Female, Elder Male, Elder Female, Child, and Toddler. If you didn’t do all of one gender first, that’s fine, just check the order of the sims in your bin. The newest ones will be first, and you can just count backwards.

Anyway, name those files according to gender and age, and copy them to a new folder, named after the face template you want to replace. Tada! That one’s done! Do this 25 more times. I know, I know, easy to say, incredibly hard to do.

A few optional hints!

• Use the same skintone, eye, and hairstyle on every starting-point face you make. This will help you gauge how different one face is from another, because skin and hair can drastically change the look of a sim.
• Don’t forget about the profile! Make sure to check how your sim looks from the side from time-to-time. Often, this is where differences in the faces will become most apparent. So be sure to use the rotate function often!
• To make a sim with the elf ears, simply go to the archetypes and select the last full-face template, which should be the elf one. Then tweak the face to be the way you want it. Also! Unless you have a hack, the last face WILL NOT spawn on townies. So if you want elf-eared townies without that hack, you’ll want to give another face (or all of the faces, if that tickles your fancy), the ears. And, finally, a warning: if you select the elf-eared template, do NOT use the archetype sliders! Make sure you only use “Modifiers” because using the archetype sliders will diminish the elf ears.

Have all your faces finished? All in neat little folders, named for each age and gender? Excellent! Now, the hard part.

Make two folders, label one “regular” and one “low def.” You’ll want these to be close to the folder that all your faces are in. Then open SimPE twice (as in, two windows). With the first instance of SimPe, you’ll want to open up the first file of the first face, which is likely the adult female of 01 HEART. With the second instance of SimPE, open up the corresponding file from AllenABQ’s face template files, which you should have downloaded earlier per the tutorial, and extracted close to the files you’re currently working with.

With the first instance, on the right, in the Resource Tree, select AllRes > Geometric Data Container. There should be two files only, but if there are more, you want the one containing “age3_0_gmdc.” If the number after “age” (3, in this case), is different, that’s fine. That number indicates, obviously, the age. 3 is adult, 4 is elder, and so on. 7, however, is Young Adult, and should be ignored, since they use the adult face files.

Right button click on age3_0_gmdc (or the correct equivalent) and choose Extract, then save that file (don’t change the name) in the “Regular” folder that you made earlier. There should be another file labeled “age3_LOD15_gmdc,” this is the low-def version of your face, so that if you have Sim Detail on low in the game, these faces will show up. That makes it important to convert both, otherwise the faces will look VASTLY different on different game settings. So, extract that file as well, save it to the “Low Def” folder.

Now you’ll want to switch to the other SimPE window, which contains the final face file. Again, select Geometric Data Container. Now, the lines under Resource List should read “afArchHeart_tslocator_gmdc” and “afArchHeartLOD15_tslocator_gmdc,” depending on which file you’re editing. “af” stands for Adult Female, and “Heart” is the face we’re working on, so these will differ from file to file. You’re going to want to replace these with your files, regular and low def, respectively.

To do this, copy the “Filename” to a text document, because you’ll need it later.

Then right-button click on the “afArchHeart_tslocator_gmdc” and choose Replace, then choose the correct file (out of the Regular folder). The correct file is the one that ends in .5gd, NOT .5gd.xml! However, you’ll only see the file extensions if you have them enabled. If you do NOT have file extensions enabled, then choose the one that doesn’t have .5gd at the end.

When the program prompts you to reload, choose “Yes.”

Now copy the Filename from the text document back to the text box you originally got it from, overwriting the text currently in there. Now choose “Commit.” Do this for both regular and low definition, then save the file. Wella! One file of one face is finished!

You’ll want to delete the contents of your Regular and Low Def folders between files, because the difference between “AC4F8687-080F8CBD-FFFFFFFF-FF3B7D95.5gd” and “AC4F8687-FB6A951D-FFFFFFFF-FF639D72.5gd” is not huge, and you don’t want to end up putting the wrong file to the wrong face.

Once you’re done with all the files for all the faces, you’re gonna notice that you’ve got a lot of files. I recommend separating them into folders by face template (so, all ages and genders for 08 EASI go in a folder labeled 08 EASI), as it will make the next step easier.

Now, you can ship them off as-is, no problem. But it’ll be nicer for everyone who downloads to only need one file per face. So you’ll want to condense them.

To do this, open up one file of one face, and choose Add.

You’ll need to change the file type to .package in order to see the rest of the files.

Then, select all the files except for the open one, and confirm. Ta-da~! They’re all there now!

Just save it as a different file, now, and you’re all set!

Wash, rinse, repeat. Once you’ve got all the files condensed, I recommend using the Compressorizer to bring down the filesize a bit. And you know what?

NOW YOU’RE DONE. Congratulations! Throw them in your downloads folder (be sure to take our your old ones first!), or zip them up and upload them, whatever you want, because you are DONE LIKE DINNER.

What you’ll need (aka, what is used in this tutorial, what I can possibly answer questions about):

1. Milkshape BETA 1.8.5
2. The appropriate Milkshape plugins
3. MorphMaker 2.3
4. Sims3PE (or C3P0, for short)

First off, you’ll want to download CMAR’s sims 3 facefiles here to get the files you need to edit. Unzip these into a directory and pick out the ones you’ll be using. The primary files end with:

Toddler: puface_lod0_2
Child: cuface_lod0_2
Teen Female: tfface_lod0_2
Teen Male: tmface_lod0_2
YA Male: ymface_lod0_2
YA Female: yfface_lod0_2
Adult Male: amface_lod0_2
Adult Female: afface_lod0_2
Elder Male: emface_lod0_2
Elder Female: efface_lod0_2

The files ending with lod2_1 and lod1_2 are for people playing with low-definition. Remember that you’ll need to edit every face template separately, so this isn’t a quick project unless you’re only editing a few ages. I personally usually skip toddler stage because many changes are hardly visible at that age anyway. Just my opinion.

Anyway, now that you have your handy project folder with the templates in it, it’s time to get actually started.

file > import > Q-mesh Sims 3 etc

Open up Milkshape, and click Import > Q-Mesh Sims 3 blah blah blah. Select the file of the age group you want to use, hit open.

Depending on which face file you’re using, you’ll get one to two errors like this one. That’s totally fine, just hit ok.

You’ll see your face (well, not YOUR face, hopefully, but you know) floating above a magical plane of wires. On the upper right hand corner, click the Groups tab, and hit “Hide.”

Go back to Import > Q-Mesh blah blah. You’ll get an error warning you that you’re importing over your model. That’s what’s supposed to happen, so no worries. Click okay, and then select the SAME age file, and load it.

In the Groups tab, your new group should be automatically selected. Click the “Comment” button, and you’ll see an “Edit Comment” window pop up with a bunch of text it in.

Select all that text and delete it, and paste this in the box:

FVFItems: 3
TableType: 0
References: 1
TGIRef00: 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000

This tells Wes’s export plugin to export that group as a morph mesh. You need the first group because the exporter needs to calculate the difference between the original and changed positions of the vertices.

Hit okay, and now we’re going to edit the mesh! If you’re familiar with meshing, this part of the tutorial will be redundant. If you’re not, or you’ve never worked with MilkShape before, though, this should help.

Switch to the Model tab. Select the “Move” button, and from here you can zoom in on your panels (this WON’T work if you have “Select” selected). Now, the change I’m making is to adjust the lower portion of the nose/the philtrum, so I want to zoom in on the 3D smooth face in the lower right, and one of the profile panels (upper right). To zoom in on the wireframe panel, hold down the ctrl key and drag with your mouse to pan, and center the head in the middle for easy zooming. To zoom, you can either use your scrolly button on your mouse (slow), or you can hold shift and drag (fast). To zoom in on the 3D panel, it’s the same, as well as panning, but be aware that you can also tilt or rotate the model if you use the mouse without ctrl or shift key.

Once you have your models properly positioned, hit “Select” and then use your mouse to draw a box around the dots (vertices) that you want to move. You can select just one by left clicking. In my case, I want to select all of these under-nose vertices.

Switch to “Move” and click+drag your mouse on the wireframe panel to move the vertices.*

*You can move the vertices in three dimensions depending on which wireframe panel you use. You’ll see in my screenshots that x, y, and z are all enabled. Click any of them to ensure you can’t move the vertices in that direction (they will go grey when deselected).

You’ll see that both the wireframe and the 3D models have changed now that I’ve moved the vertices. This is a really subtle change, because I wanted to make sure there weren’t any clipping issues with the other vertices in that area. Remember, though, when making a slider, you want to make your morph the extreme so that you can access a range of options through it. Say you wanted to make elf ears (redundant, since CmarNYC has already made that slider, but this is hypothetical): you’d want to make them pretty darn big so that you could access any size from regular to huge! So when making your sliders, try to make them as polar as possible without making the mesh go wonky.

Anyway, once you’re done tweaking the mesh, you’ll want to save this project just in case anything untoward happens. I feel better when my project folders are full of jargon that only I can understand (makes me feel legit), so I titled this project tm_prj (teen male project).

Then go to Export > Q-Mesh Sims 3 blah blah, and hit enter (Export, not Import). You’ll get an error warning you that you can’t have two groups in one file. That’s fine, because you only want to save the second group you made, anyway! Hit okay.

You DON’T want to export “GEOM-00,” so hit “no.”

“GEOM-01″ is the one you want, so select “yes,” name your file (“tm_morph,” in my case), and save. Ta da! You’ve got one group down. Repeat this process for all the other ages, genders, and definitions (if desired), and at the end you should have a folder full of jargonny files.

Close MilkShape, we’re done with that for now.

Now you’ll want to open up MorphMaker! Enter a name for your project (I’m using “philtrum_slider”), and hit that little arrow to get your Instance ID.

From there, use the “Import meshes” buttons to load the files you’ve just made! Once you’ve selected all those files, hit the “Slider” button under “Make Morphs.”

Fill out the Slider Information box. My example is below.

Sidenote: You’ll see there’s a “bidirectional?” box there. I don’t know how to use that yet. For now, we’re only making one-way sliders.

Okay, now we have our project set, so let’s File > Save. Next up, we need to make sure we have the right files to make our .package!

In this order:
Click “Create BGEO.” Without renaming, save the file inside your project directory.
Click “Create FacialBlend.” Again without renaming, save that file in your directory, too.
Click “Create Blendunit and STBL Files.” This will save a bunch more files into that same directory. Make sure you select “All languages” when it asks you, instead of just “English.”

If you’re making a slider to be uploaded, you should make a complete set or games running in other languages will have an ugly hex string displayed as the label text. FaceMorphMaker will create all the actual text in English but you can use S3PE to change them later as you get translations.

Now you can “Create Package.” It should come up with a window with the BGEO box filled in. Hit okay, name your .package, and we’re done with this step! Close MorphMaker.

We’re on the last leg now! Open up that .package you just made in s3pe. Select Resource > Import > From File and navigate to your project folder.

Assuming that you deleted all the original facefiles, you should have just a bunch of files with “philtrum_slider” (or whatever your project name was) in them. Select all of these. There should be a bunch of .stbl files, one .bgeo, one .facialblend, and one .blendunit.

Hit open, and you’ll get a window like this one. “Replace duplicates” and “compress” should both be checked, and then hit “Import.”

Once it’s done, you’ll see a screen like this, with lines through a number of the resources. That’s fine, that just means that your changes took. Save the file, and you’re done!

Pop the file in your Downloads folder and load up the game to test it out. Make sure if you don’t used certain ages or genders that you don’t try using the sliders on others, because they won’t work properly. Also remember that the default age in Sims 3 is YOUNG adult, not Adult. If you only edited the Adult file, it’s not going to show on your Young Adult sims!

Since I did every age and gender except child and toddler, I’m testing it out on Doctor Ten here.

Now, I have my sliders set to 2x, so if I pull the slider all the way, there will be clipping, and it will look silly. But if I go about halfway (to the intended extreme), then it looks pretty good, I think!

I don’t pretend to be particularly good at making likenesses to real people for sims, but I thought that this was worth a shot.

I’m kind of a huge Doctor Who nerd (of the recent variety – sorry, not hardcore), and though Chris Eccleston is actually my favourite, he’s refusing to be simmed at the moment, so Ten it is. He’s a bit young-looking, but he IS a young adult – you may find aging him up makes him look a bit better, but that’s up to you.

The Doctor is: Genius, Lucky, Friendly, Perspective, and Computer Whiz (just you watch – he’s brilliant with computers!).
