The Unlikelihood of Whales

What ARE whales? We just don’t know.

So, lo these many years ago when I started playing sims 2 for the first time, I wished for a giant whale sculpture, like the little one that came with the game. I received no response to my requests nor to my WCIFs, and for two years I let the matter be.

Until two days ago, when, while retexturing my previous uploads, I realised that I now knew how to clone objects, and knew how to work with meshes using MilkShape. Upon realising this, I went mad with power, and made WHALES. Brilliant whales! Whales of brilliance! I cloned the Unlikely Whale Sculpture (I believe it was a Seasons object, and while I believe that it should work in any game, I have not yet tested it), painted some retextures, and then did some, uh, subtle resizing. :D

In this download, you shall find the following whales:

The Extremely Unlikely Whale Sculpture – hanging whale, 10x original size (This whale also includes a bonus pink leopard-print whale recolour, upon request)

The Fairly Unlikely Whale Sculpture – hanging whale, 5x original size

The Ocean Farin’ Whale – No strings attached, intended for placement in the ocean portion of beach lots!

The Pond Whale – No strings, sits at ground level so that it can be placed in ponds. Or on land, if you prefer.

There’s A Whale In My Pool! – A whale specifically meant to be submerged in swimming pools. Do not place on solid ground, or it will disappear and become unremovable.

A few more things to mention: these whales are not repositoried in any way because I tried it and it didn’t work. You are absolutely welcome to include this in lots, to retexture or recolour it, as long as you drop a link back here. The mesh, obviously, is Maxis (just resized), so it has the same polycount (~800) as the original tiny sculpture. It also, as such, is not mine and I make no claims to it. I just resized it.

I forgot to compress the files, and now I am too lazy, so you shall certainly have a satisfying time using your Compressorizer on them. :3

Someone mentioned on the GoS Best Finds Discussion thread (WHICH I AM DELIGHTED TO BE FEATURED IN) that Huge Lunatic had done a decorative whale, which blew my mind, because I had not known this! So I hunted it down, and it is available for download here.

  1. For some reason whales completely creep me out, THIS IS WHY I MUST HAVE THESE! I’m so looking forward to seeing my sims swim in the ocean or a pool with a whale and sitting infront of the computer shitting bricks. THANK YOU!

  2. This is awesome. I love it! Thank you for sharing.

  3. This is a throughly amusing concept! However my sim world is too polluted for alive whales so I’ll have to create a beached version that is bloated and has its entrails spilling out of punctures in its skin from decomposition. Cheers to making the sims weirder and refreshingly grotesque!

  4. These are fun! Any chance of Neighbourhood Whales? :)

Wait…These aren’t escapees from Sims Medieval, are they? If they eat my sims I’ll call Ahab on them… *g*

    • Oh, you could use my sailingboat defaults to make actually moving whales in the neighbourhood!

      These whales are great, thanks!

      • Oh gosh, you are right, I could! :O I absolutely have to look into doing that!!

      • Well I have been attempting to use your default as a template to replace the mesh and textures, but for whatever reason I just can’t get it to work. I’m probably making a ridiculously easy mistake, but there you have it. I’ve replaced the GMDC with the resized whale mesh, and I’ve replaced the textures with the whale textures. I saved the file as, plopped it in the game, and bam! Magically no boats or whales whatsoever. :P

You’re welcome to make the replacement yourself, since you obviously know what you’re doing more than I do. :P I’d be happy to link to it from here!

    • Bwahaha Ahab!

  5. YEAH FAIL WHALES! POOL WHALE IS MIEN!
